The original shed on the property was too small for the owners’ needs and was in a state of disrepair, necessitating either renovation or replacement. The location of the shed remained the same, but the footprint was enlarged and divided into three separate rooms. Two storage spaces were created – one insulated and heated for family mementos, and the other unfinished for tools and appliances. In between these storage spaces, a finished gym was added. The structure was given careful attention to detail both inside and out, creating a homogenous whole linked by a common wood entrance deck.
The storage area where books and family mementos are kept is finished with clean and simple details around the doors and windows, and the insulated space is appropriately conditioned. In contrast, the walls and ceiling of the tool shed are left unfinished, with the structure exposed. The daylight-filled gym is equipped with essential sports equipment, a dance studio corner, and minimalist custom birch plywood cabinetry, creating a functional yet stylish space.
